WELLBEING THROUGH ARTS & CRAFTS

PROJECT BACKGROUND

This project aims to increase levels of wellbeing of people from diverse cultural background who are new in Grater Manchester by participating in Fine Art and Arts & Craft sessions organised by our teachers and volunteers. The sessions are designed to increase knowledge and practice of spoken English combined with painting, scripture, drawing and embroidery. Our sessions are run via online and small groups safe face to face in our centre. Our learners receive practical support to produce their creative work, are encouraged to develop friendships and increase their confidence in exhibiting their art. Migrant Support has worked in partnership with other organisations developing creative activities such as Creative writing, Music and performances with Olympias Foundation, Common Word, Manchester Library and Café Nexus (exhibiting our participants work). At the moment we are working towards an Art Exhibition in 2022.

pEOPLE INVOLVED

Our last art workshop involved women whose painting and drawings were exhibited at the Manchester Central library for the International Women’s Day. An open exhibition was held at the Methodist Central Building and Cafe Nexus. Approximately 20 women participated in the sessions and currently, we have enrolled 15 learners working online and face to face to create material for an exhibition.
