The wellbeing GTT project aims to form peer supporters’ groups made by people who share similar language/cultural backgrounds, mainly women but not exclusively.
GTT aims to encourage people to meet on a regular basis (either online or face to face) to learn from each other, share experiences, participate in outdoor and wellbeing activities, develop friendships, strengthen their networks and increase levels of resilience.
The GTT also offers (online and face to face) workshops in different languages covering various wellbeing issues including healthy eating, mental health, vaccines, Covid long effects.
This project aims to replicate the experience of working with women as part of the Self- Reliant Groups (in partnership with Church Action on Poverty) in terms of helping people to avoid isolation (including digital exclusion) and increasing resilience and self determination to move forward together. Sessions are delivered by facilitators and volunteers and provide support to individuals and groups.
Participants will be also able to participate with other activities the charity offers, such as ‘Vegan Cafe’ in the city centre, writing groups, English lessons, media project, walking clubs and digital inclusion sessions.
This project was initially supported by the University of Manchester but in the last 5 years, Migrant Support run the project entirely with its own resources and relying on volunteers.
